Tony Porter was born and raised in Fredericton, N.B. then pursued a law enforcement career with the Miramichi Police Force in N.B. During his 26 years in policing, Tony served in the Criminal Investigation Division, Drug Section, Containment Team and completed his service as a supervisor with the Patrol Division.

In April of 2017, Tony and his wife Jill, along with their 15 year old Border Collie/Shepherd mix, Jackson, returned to Fredericton to join their two sons and grandson. He was hired by the New Brunswick SPCA as the Chief Animal Protection Officer the following September. While in the capacity as Chief, Tony has seen a number of pressing and concerning issues with Animal Welfare in the Province and areas needing improvement. The Province of New Brunswick has made strides through their Act and Regulations to improve the lives of animals in the Province. Under Tony’s leadership, the NB SPCA, in partnership with the Province of N.B., is committed to making these necessary improvements.
