Speaker Bio
Dr. Caitlin McLagan graduated with her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) in 2015 from Oregon State University. From there, she completed a rotating internship in small animal emergency, medicine, and surgery at the University of Calgary. After practicing primary emergency in referral hospitals in BC for several years, she moved to Guelph, Ontario to pursue advanced training in emergency and critical care. Following a move to Toronto, she practiced in emergency and shelter medicine before moving back home to BC and accepting a position as Medical Director at South Burnaby Veterinary Hospital.

Throughout the years, Caitlin has participated in preventive veterinary medicine clinics both locally and internationally, partnering with non-profit organizations in Botswana, remote and rural BC communities, Nunavut, Belize, Indonesia, Dominican Republic, Nicaragua, and Vietnam.

Caitlin is passionate about emergency and critical care, pain relief modalities, surgery, and accessible medicine through community outreach. Other areas of special interest include communication, teaching, mentorship, and the wellness and empowerment of veterinary teams. She especially enjoys working with vet students, interns, and new graduate veterinarians and technicians with a hands-on approach to provide a supportive and empathic working environment with which to build skills and enable safe and effective learning.

Caitlin enjoys many hobbies when not practicing veterinary medicine. She is thrilled to be back on the West Coast where she enjoys hiking, trail running, and performing burlesque. Her vet school souvenir, a scruffy terrier named Muppet, is never far behind. She has an embarrassing number of houseplants to which she tends with variable success.
