Dr. Berliner is a Senior Director of Shelter Medicine Services at the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA). She earned her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) from Cornell University’s College of Veterinary Medicine in 2003. She practiced in general and emergency practice prior to entering shelter medicine practice in Baltimore. In 2010, she returned to Cornell to provide leadership for the Maddie’s Shelter Medicine Program. She also served as a seasonal field veterinarian for Rural Area Veterinary Services (RAVS) for many years, and was surgical team lead for the Cornell team for Spayathon for Puerto Rico.

A former board member for the Association of Shelter Veterinarians (ASV), she continues to serve on the ASV’s position statement committee, and most recently on the task force revising the Guidelines for Standards of Care in Animal Shelters. Dr. Berliner is boarded in both shelter medicine practice and canine and feline practice with the American Board of Veterinary Practitioners.

She lives on a hobby farm lovingly called Scratch and Dent Acres, which is shared with her husband but truly run by a cadre of rescued companions -- which include 3 dairy goats, 17 chickens, 3 chihuahuas, 2 cats, and a red-eared slider.
