Jessica Walker is a 15 year old youth animal activist, and founder of the Little Red Barn Sanctuary in Winnipeg, Manitoba. Jessica is passionate about animal welfare and participates in frontline animal rescues, animal welfare committees, establishing relationships with farmers, vigils, bearing witness, education, and research. She is currently developing a virtual farm animal classroom for students during COVID to connect with farm animals. One of her recent projects was to establish a Zen Bovine program for individuals who are experiencing anxiety and benefit from interacting with cows. Jessica has also worked extensively with other sanctuaries to save hens from battery cage culling, as well as horses at auction destined for human meat consumption. She has received numerous awards for her research work including the Woman's Health Award, and a Gold Medal from the Manitoba School Science Fair. Jessica was also able to present her research at the National Canada Wide Science Fair. Since being published in the Canadian Science Fair Journal, Winter 2020, Jessica has been commended from around the world for her youth activism in animal welfare, and for teaching empathy and compassion to children.
