Dr. Jane Goodall The Hon. Murray Sinclair
Description

Join us for this important and inspirational conversation with two international luminaries as they discuss the path forward for animal welfare, sentience, and the need for holistic, one welfare thinking in these challenging times.

The Honourable Murray Sinclair is renowned for his work on the Truth and Reconciliation Commission and for being one of the Indigenous community’s most prominent voices.  Mr. Sinclair was named as one of 50 Canadians who are breaking ground, leading the debate and shaping how we think and live by Maclean’s magazine. The New York Times recently said “Mr. Sinclair retired this past week, leaving behind a comprehensive road map to improve Canada’s relations with Indigenous people, a legacy of fighting for justice and a history of challenging assumptions and provoking debate.” That road map included animals.

In November 2020, The Honourable Murray Sinclair teamed up with Dr. Jane Goodall to introduce Bill S-218, also known as the Jane Goodall Act, to protect captive great apes and elephants and spark a national conversation on animal sentience and the responsibilities that humans have to the animals with which we share the planet.

Dr. Jane Goodall is a global icon. As a scientist, a conservationist, a peacemaker and a mentor, Dr. Goodall has inspired multiple generations into interdisciplinary thinking – advocating for solutions that include animals, people and the environment. She emphasizes the interconnectedness of all living things and the collective power of individual action, urging her audiences to recognize their personal responsibility and ability to effect change. "Every individual matters," she says. "Every individual has a role to play. Every individual makes a difference."

In this 45-minute, keynote presentation, Dr. Goodall and The Honourable Murray Sinclair will discuss humaneness, reconciliation and why the Jane Goodall Act will propel Canada toward a more equitable future.
