Description

Recent world events have brought discrimination and oppression among people to the forefront. Systemic racism is not just an issue one sees in the United States, it exists globally and right here in our own backyard!

There is a desire and willingness now to do something about it, to address various kinds of diversities (not just race) and, to consciously foster a diverse, equitable, and inclusive environment. But, for small non-profit organizations with very limited resources, the biggest struggle is where and how to even start this DEI journey!

And then for animal welfare organizations, there is the added question of understanding the need for a Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Program! We’re here for the animals!? One can forget that humans are our fuel that keep our cause running. A focus on DEI can ensure that these humans feel supported and heard which preserves the integrity of the human-animal bond, enriching the lives of both.

So, if you are a small or non-profit animal welfare organization, fairly new to the world of DEI, THEN THIS SESSION IS FOR YOU!

Join Toronto Humane Society’s Carol Boulding (Director, People & Culture) and Subah Chhabra (Diversity, Equity & Inclusion Specialist) and through their journey learn how to begin your DEI journey with scarce resources, using a clear six phase process and other best practices, ensuring that all your stakeholders, especially the communities you work with, regardless of their backgrounds, cultures, views etc. feel included and respected!

Key Learnings :

1. How and where to begin your organization’s Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Journey with limited resources. (A blueprint).
2. How to adapt a six phase DEI approach to your context.
3. How Diversity, Equity and Inclusion is a key component for driving productivity and ensuring sustainability.
