Dr. Eric Troncy is a Professor of Pharmacology and Director of the Research Group in Animal Pharmacology of Quebec (GREPAQ) at the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine (FVM) of Université de Montréal (QC, Canada). Laureate of the National Veterinary School of Lyon, Dr. Troncy also completed an Anaesthesiology Residency, a PhD in biomedical sciences at the Université de Montréal, and a Doctorate in Pharmacology-Pharmacochemistry at Louis Pasteur University of Strasbourg. He is a renowned member of the scientific veterinary community for his work on animal pain, its evaluation and its management. He was awarded “Veterinarian of the year 2001” in France, “Knight – Ordre du Mérite Agricole” of the French Republic in 2009 for his devotion to the promotion of animal pain management, and “Researcher of the year 2010 and 2017” and “Excellence in research 2013” by the Université de Montréal FVM. Funded by international, national, as well as provincial organizations, his applied research program is also well connected with the biomedical industry (Best Industry – University Partnership of the year in Quebec in 2013). He has supervised 28 MSc and 14 PhD students, is an author of 142 peer-reviewed research publications, 88 review publications, 146 guest presentations and 239 scientific abstracts. Most recently, his work has focused on pain central sensitization mechanism, its control through pharmacology and genetic therapy, and its influence on sensorial perception, to the bidirectional communications in the human – animal bound, their detection with artificial intelligence, and in particular the place of canine olfactory medical detection.
