Sloane Hawes, MSW (she/her/hers) is the Assistant Director of Research at the Institute for Human-Animal Connection. She earned her MSW with a concentration in Sustainable Development and Global Practice from the University of Denver's Graduate School of Social Work. She also holds certificates in Animal-Assisted Social Work from University of Denver, Animal Shelter Management from University of the Pacific, and Restorative Practices from ConTribute. She completed her undergraduate coursework at University of San Diego, receiving a BA in Ethnic Studies and Psychology. She manages a social science research agenda examining the factors that inform companion animal welfare, with a particular interest in the One Health framework and understanding how animal welfare challenges intersect with human social and ecological justice issues.
