Melvin Chan is a PhD student in environmental studies working under the supervision of Dr. Leesa Fawcett at York University. His research focuses on humane education, particularly how humans can learn with animals in mutual and interdependent relationships. He recently completed his master’s degree in education (specializing in social and emotional learning) at the University of British Columbia. Under the co-supervision of Dr. Kimberly Schonert-Reichl and Dr. John-Tyler Binfet, his master's research reviewed the research on the effectiveness of humane education programs for promoting the social and emotional competencies of children and youth.
